“We are planning to provide our customers Wi-Fi services at indoor locations such airports, cafes, food courts, apart from their homes. We will be offering 8 Mbps speed“, MTNL Executive Director Peeyush Agarwal told reporters here over the weekend. The high speed internet will not come for free. MTNL will charge Rs. 50 to 100 for this service in addition to your rental plan. MTNL will partner with local retail outlets, food courts, Airports and Malls. It has already added Terminal T2 to this list. To access this service, customer will have to use a line-bonding modem. Once in the vicinity of the hot spot, you can connect using your unique ID and password, and avail the high speed internet access. Mr. Agarwal mentioned that after completion of some pending authentication process, the services will be officially launched in partnership with C-bot. It is an interesting move from MTNL to enhance its customer base and will benefit frequent travelers once it is official and kicking. Readily accessible Wi-Fi, while on the move is always welcome. Of course the service won’t be as meaningful for those who can manage with 3G access for most occasions.
