Design and Build

The design of the L70 does not make it a show stopper by any stretch of mind and but its matte design at the rear makes the smartphone look slightly premium. It won’t attract any fingerprints as well. It looks decent enough for a device in this segment.

The L70 gets a 4.5 inch display with a resolution of 800 x 480 pixels which we feel is pretty low even for a mid range smartphone and LG seems to have missed the mark completely on this one. Sunlight legibility won’t be on the better side of things either.

Camera and Internal Storage

L70 will get an 8MP/5MP camera (depending upon region) at the back which will be coupled with a LED flash and the same will team up with a VGA front camera. The camera unit is a pretty average one but will surely get the job done in times of need. The internal storage capacity of L70 stands at 4GB which again we think seems to be an area LG has ignored. It should have been at least 8GB. However, a microSD card slot is made available which will allow for expansion of memory by another 32GB.

Battery, Operating System and Chipset

Giving L70 the juice is a 2,100 mAh battery unit that is expected to last a day easily considering the fact that it has to power a pretty much entry level basic hardware. It runs on Android 4.4.2 KitKat which is the best thing about the L70. Not many entry level smartphones features the latest version of Android and the L70 takes the cake with KitKat. It features a Qualcomm MSM8210/MSM8610 Snapdragon 200 chipset which has a 1.2 GHz dual core processor doing the duty. An Adreno 302 GPU will be taking charge of the graphics department which would get your daily work done but don’t expect it to suuport graphic intensive applications.

Conclusion

L70 as a smartphone will be good enough as an entry level smartphone that runs on the latest version of Android. It gets useful features like  Q-Slide but does come with a lot of bloatware from LG which might not be liked by everyone. It is good enough for a sub Rs 10,000 smartphone but beyond that it won’t make a lot of sense. It is expected to come to India in March this year.
