About Author

Hossein Gholipour is an Electronic Engineer with 14 years of experience as Designer and 16 years of managerial experience in “Electronic Components Experts” and “Incoming Center”. He also organized two big Electronic Component stores with over 40,000 different kinds of electronic components.

Book Presentation

The book is carved into 24 main groups consisting information about a wide range of electronic components. All the main groups are dedicated to a particular electronic component like Resistors and Capacitors (or a category like Sensors and Transducers in Chapter 22). Each main group is again divided into numerous sub groups based on the different types of categories each component has. For example, the main group Resistor is divided into sub-groups consisting of Fixed Resistors, Potentiometers, Rheostats, Trimmers, LDR (Light Dependent Resistor) etc. The final 10 chapters in the book can be considered as a bonus inclusion as it contains some of the important information like Suppliers, SMD component Sizes, IP Codes and Schematic Symbols.

Book Review

Being in the Electronics Industry for quite some time, I felt that this book is very handy with the information provided on different types of Electronic Components. The book has details about Resistors, Capacitors, Inductors (and Transformers), Diodes, Integrated Circuits, Crystals, Wires & Cables, Audio Components, Audio & Video Connectors, Displays, Fuses and Sensors,to name a few components covered in this book.

All components in one book: 24 main groups, about 650 sub-groups Contains :Design and important notes, application, functions, photos, markings Suitable for electronic designers, students, collegian, warehouse keeper, projects managers.

Every component described in the book has a brief note on its function, applications, specifications, component coding (if any), few important pictures, small list of Manufacturers and possible markings on the component. The treatment given to the topic on Connectors (Chapter 11) and Sensors (Chapter 22) is my personal favourite. The topic Connectors is again divided into 9 groups consisting the likes of Audio & Video Connectors, RF & Microwave, PCB Interconnects, Contacts & Pins and Component Sockets. Coming to the Sensors & Transducers Chapter, boy it’s a treat. It includes sensors like Accelerometers, Humidity, Temperature, Motion, Magnetic, Pressure, Ultrasonic and many other. Overall, it is a very good collection of major electronic components under one roof even though some of them are excluded (even the author mentions it). At first, I felt that this book is more useful for warehouses, electronics stores and product managers in PCB Assembly houses after completely reading it. But when I read it for the second time, I realized that even students and engineers can benefit from the collection provided in this book, maybe as a reference.

The Good Aspects

The first thing to like about this book is undoubtedly the inclusion of a wide range of electronic components. Even with so many categories, the author gave importance to each component and even its sub-categories.

All components in one book: 24 main groups, about 650 sub-groups Contains :Design and important notes, application, functions, photos, markings Suitable for electronic designers, students, collegian, warehouse keeper, projects managers.

The other good thing about this book is each component is given with a picture (at least one) and a brief list of manufacturers. Finally, the bonus information (which I personally like to call the final 10 Chapters) provided at the end. In this, the Schematic Symbols and the websites of different manufacturers standout from the rest.

The Not So Good Aspects

Even though schematic symbols are given at the end of the book, I felt that including them with that particular component would benefit students. This book is not a how to use guide but just a collection of electronic components, their specifications, applications and few important manufacturers.

The Conclusion

This book is very compact with a little over 200 pages yet fits in information about a wide variety of Electronic Components. The information provided in this book i.e. function of a component, its applications, pictures, list of manufacturers and manufacturer markings on the component can be very useful for a wide range of people like students, engineers, PCB Assembly houses, warehouse keepers, electronics store managers and even project managers.

All components in one book: 24 main groups, about 650 sub-groups Contains :Design and important notes, application, functions, photos, markings Suitable for electronic designers, students, collegian, warehouse keeper, projects managers.
